Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Aurora’s Robotic Surgery Center

The team at The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) is committed to safely and efficiently getting our patients back to their lives. One of the ways we can do that for some of our patients is through robotic surgery.

During robotic surgery, the surgeon sits at the robotic system console several feet from the patient in the operating room. The surgeon views the body through a high-definition, 3D system while using hand controls to move robotic arms, which have been inserted strategically through small incisions. The robotic arms mirror the surgeon’s motions on a much smaller scale, providing the surgeon more dexterity and agility than the human hand alone.

Benefits of robotic surgery

This approach leads to a variety of benefits, including:

  • Reduced blood loss
  • Smaller incisions, less pain and scarring
  • Fewer complications
  • Reduced risk of infection
  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Faster return to normal daily activities

Areas of specialization

We can use our leading technology on qualifying patients who are in need of surgeries, such as:

  • Colorectal
  • Gynecologic
  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Thoracic
  • Urology
  • General

Ask your doctor if robotic surgery is an option for you. Not all patients are candidates for robot-assisted surgery. Your doctor will consider your health history and current condition when assessing robotic surgery as a treatment option.
