Choosing emergency care vs. urgent care
Figuring out whether you or a loved one need emergency care or urgent care is never easy, especially if symptoms appear serious. Urgent care facilities are great for treating common illnesses and injuries, like the flu and scrapes. Most urgent care clinics, however, are not able to treat more serious conditions, like pneumonia or concussions. Additionally, not every urgent care clinic is an after-hours clinic, making them inaccessible at night when you may need care the most.
When to go to an urgent care clinic
Here are a variety of symptoms and conditions you can have treated at the closest urgent care clinic:
- Sore throat
- Flu-like symptoms
- Rashes or scrapes
When to go to the nearest emergency room
If you have a condition that, without treatment, may cause you serious discomfort or life-altering consequences, go to the closest emergency room as soon as possible. Emergency rooms are staffed by board-certified surgeons and other doctors who are specialists in treating all conditions. Symptoms that warrant an ER visit include:
- Allergic reaction
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Suspected broken bone
- Sudden loss of vision
- Loss of coordination
Main campus ER
As a Level II Trauma Center, TMCA’s main campus ER is equipped to handle all types of conditions in our 24/7 emergency room. We have advanced technology, including high-tech ICUs and operating rooms.
We also offer expert pediatric ER care through our affiliation with the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. This includes pediatricians and pediatric specialty nurses on staff 12 hours each day.
Additionally, our ER was recently renovated to reduce wait times for patients needing treatment for minor medical conditions. The rapid medical evaluation program allows low-acuity patients to receive care quickly and safely, shortening their hospital visits.
Rapid medical evaluation is available seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
For non-emergent questions or to get directions to our main ER, please call (303) 695-2600. (303) 695-2600.
Centennial Medical Plaza ER
Centennial Medical Plaza is a full-service emergency room staffed 24/7 with board-certified emergency medicine physicians and specially trained pediatric nurses. It is also an Accredited Chest Pain Center. As the only ER in Centennial, Colorado, our patients can expect fast, high-quality care.
Saddle Rock ER
Saddle Rock ER sits on the southwest corner of South Gartrell Road and Easy Dry Creek Road, near E-470. The facility accepts walk-in patients and patients arriving by ambulance. If hospital admission is necessary, Saddle Rock ER patients can receive rapid ground or air transport to TMCA.
Behavioral health treatment
Unlike most urgent care clinics, emergency rooms are equipped to treat behavioral health patients. If you or a loved one is experiencing erratic or destructive behavior, come to the ER to receive evaluation and consultation. Seek medical attention immediately for:
- Self-inflicted wounds
- Suicidal or homicidal feelings
- Severe depression
- Ingestion of toxic substances
Telemedicine—saving time and lives
As HealthONE facilities, the main campus ER, Centennial Medical Center ER and Saddle Rock ER have 24/7 access to an extensive network of stroke and behavioral health experts through our telemedicine program. Using a telemedicine camera and monitoring system, these specialty physicians can instantly evaluate and diagnose patients, working with the on-site ER physician to initiate treatment. Telemedicine technology brings the highest level of stroke and mental health care in the region to your backyard.
