Oncology nurse navigator program

An oncology nurse navigator serves as a key member of the multidisciplinary team. The first point of contact with the navigator is typically when a patient is newly diagnosed. This diagnosis can be devastating and often leaves patients and families feeling hopeless and confused. Initial contact with the navigator assures these patients and families that they have an advocate and an easily accessible source of information and support.

The oncology nurse navigator assists in expediting the care by maintaining communication, scheduling tests, making appropriate consultations and initiating treatment(s) as recommended by the team. The navigator also serves as a liaison between the team, patient and family to ensure the best individualized care.
