A pre-hospital resource for Emergency Medical Services

Welcome EMS providers! In addition to providing exceptional patient care, The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) is dedicated to providing support and educational opportunities to the EMS community.

The Main Campus facility, which is licensed for 346 beds, is a Level II Trauma Center with Primary Stroke Certification and Chest Pain Center accreditation, serving the eastern metro area and I-70 corridor.

TMCA was the first community hospital in the Denver Metro area to receive two-time Magnet designation for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Why transport to The Medical Center of Aurora

Our key programs include:

  • Cardiac Alert® - In 2001, The Medical Center of Aurora developed the Cardiac Alert®program in partnership with our physicians, the Colorado Heart Institute and the Aurora EMS community. The program became the national standard of care for treating heart attack patients.
  • Resuscitation Choreography - An organized and collaborative response to cardiac arrest patients using teamwork and designated roles throughout the resuscitation of the patient. Through a partnership with Aurora Fire Department and Falck Rocky Mountain, The Medical Center of Aurora staff and physicians are able to care for the cardiac arrest patient more efficiently with a systematic approach.
  • Stroke Alert – Trained stroke response team – This program provides better, faster care to stroke patients. A specially trained stroke response team works closely with our emergency service providers to quickly and appropriately identify and treat strokes. Suspected stroke patients are able to go directly from the ambulance to the CT scanner which is located in the Emergency Department.
  • Advanced Electrophysiology (EP) Program – The Medical Center of Aurora has one of the busiest EP programs in the state. Procedures are performed in two state of the art cardiac catheterization labs which opened Fall 2009. TMCA was the first hospital in North America to incorporate the Philips Integrated EP Cockpit XL system into its catheterization labs where thousands of cardiac procedures are performed each year and will unveil a brand new, state-of-the-art hybrid cath lab in Summer 2017.

Educational opportunities for EMS

Monthly conferences

The Medical Center of Aurora offers a monthly EMS and Trauma continuing education conference. It is designed to provide continuing education on various topics to providers involved in pre-hospital care. This series is targeted for EMS providers; however, other personnel involved in acute care are welcome to attend. EMS conference objectives include:

  • To increase knowledge by presenting and discussing the latest trends in the care of patients through case presentation and other styles.
  • To enhance continuous quality improvement through educational opportunities.

Participant’s personal objectives should be met through open dialog and question and answer periods. The conferences are held the third Friday each month, from 9:00am - 11:00am in South Campus Meeting Room 1 or 2 and breakfast is served.
