Most cancers occur by chance. Some cancers can run in families. In these families, the risk for cancer can be higher than the general population and these families may have different screening options.
Genetic counseling is recommended for individuals with a family history of cancer. Genetic counselors predict your likelihood of cancer development. Our genetic counselors are knowledgeable in all aspects of genetic testing options, results interpretation and screening recommendations. Our goal is either cancer prevention or catching cancer at its earliest stages when it is easier to treat.
If you have a family history of cancer, you may have a greater than average risk for cancer and may benefit from a genetic evaluation. To find out your cancer risk, take a few minutes to complete the genetic risk assessment below (courtesy of Colorado Integrative Cancer Care). Colorado Integrative Cancer Care is located across the street from The Medical Center of Aurora's Main Campus.
