What is Inpatient Behavioral Health?

More than 25% of people experience emotional problems at some point in their lives. The adult inpatient Behavioral Health Unit is a 40-bed psychiatric treatment unit for persons ages 18-55 who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis and can benefit from short-term intensive treatment. The unit is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art psychiatric care so that you/your loved ones can experience top quality treatment and care.

What behavioral health problems does the acute unit treat?

  • Severe depression
  • Suicidal thoughts/behaviors
  • Schizophrenia
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Personality Disorders
  • Anxiety/panic disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Many other severely impairing psychiatric conditions

What type of therapies are provided?

  • Psychiatric evaluation and treatment
  • Group therapy
  • Recreational therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Family conferences
  • Medication and illness education
  • Enhancing coping skills

Who staffs the unit?

The unit is staffed by specially trained physicians and nurses, licensed social workers, discharge planners, occupational and recreational therapists and mental health counselors. There is 24 hour nursing care on the unit. These experienced professionals help provide structured activities, medication monitoring, case management and family support.

Patient care process

The multidisciplinary team on the inpatient Behavioral Health Unit will provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. Our team of professionals will partner with you and your outside support system to design a treatment plan that will help put you back on the path to wellness. We believe in a strength based cooperative approach, in which the patient participates to the best of his/her ability.

Admission guidelines and inquiries

NO walk-ins are accepted. Admissions are coordinated through hospital emergency departments through an admissions triage process. The adult inpatient Behavioral Health Unit will accept patients ages 18-55.
